Sherwood Drinking Water Testing for Lead

Dear Families,

As part of the Safe Drinking Water Act, water samples were recently collected at Sherwood Secondary School to determine lead content in drinking water.

This message is to inform you of lead exceedances at select fixtures within Room 2008 of the school. The exceedances were as follows (with a standard for lead being 10mg/L or below):

  • Food Prep Sink – 564-D201004-2008-001 – standing exceedance of 18 ug/L and flushed exceedance of 25 ug/L
  • Food Prep Sink – 564-D201004-2008-002 – standing exceedance of 27 ug/L
  • Food Prep Sink – 564-D201004-2008-003 – flushed exceedance of 23 ug/L
  • Food Prep Sink – 564-D201004-2008-004 – standing exceedance of 11 ug/L

In addition to informing the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, HWDSB’s Occupational Health and Safety Department has consulted with Hamilton Public Health Services to ensure appropriate corrective actions for the safety of students and staff.

All four fixtures with exceedances are now inaccessible with signage stating they are not to be used. Additionally, Sherwood’s flushing schedule will change from weekly to daily for all drinking water fixtures at the school to prevent lead from accumulating in drinking water.

If you have questions, please contact the school at [email protected] or 905-383-3377. For more information, visit the Drinking Water Testing for Lead page on the HWDSB website.

Thank you,
