Return to High Street Message for Sherwood Families from our Principal

Dear Sherwood Families,

The moment we have all been waiting for has finally come. After our two-year sojourn on a temporary site at 75 Palmer Street, we are returning to our permanent, renovated school site on 25 High Street! Much thanks to the community for the advocacy and patient support of the cause. A cause that is entrenched in a community’s belief, pride and trust in a public school system committed to serving children and youth with the best infrastructure needed to learn, engage and succeed. Our students are our future and as educators and staff at Sherwood we do not take the trust bestowed on us lightly. A lot has gone into the move from 25 High Street and even more work and dedication has gone into our return to the renovated building. We profusely thank all the community members, the board, staff, project managers and contractors who are too numerous to mention, for all the work that has been done to realize this dream.

We are aware of the excitement that this brings, and we would like to ensure that our students and families are aware of the special events planned for Grade 9 students and special schedules created for the first two days of the 2024/25 school year. It is pertinent to note that, apart from the grade 12 students, the other grades know little about the renovated site, if at all; and this is because of the isolation during those two brutal COVID years when we pivoted to online learning. This year, we are excited to have the grade 9 students join and become phenomenal Saints! Please see below for important information on school start-up.

We would like Sherwood families to know that the school’s main office would be operative at 25 High Street starting from August 19, 2024. Do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Thursday August 29, 2024, is Grade 9 Orientation

A special event has been planned for all incoming grade 9 students from 9AM until 12 noon. We strongly encourage all incoming grade 9 students to attend this event as it will provide them with an opportunity to explore the school, receive their timetables, meet some of the teachers. They will also be able to make a few friends and participate in some welcoming activities. All grade 9 students will be supported by some of our phenomenal Sherwood Saints Student Leaders and teachers.

Tuesday September 3, 2024, is the First Day of School

All students are to attend, beginning at 8AM. A special schedule has been crafted that will allow students to explore the building with our phenomenal Sherwood Saints Student Leaders, find their classes, and participate in some welcoming assemblies and activities before attending shortened periods for the rest of the day. All students will be dismissed at the end of the day at the bell time of 2:30 PM.

Wednesday September 4, 2024, is the Second Day of School and our Official Welcome Back to High Street Celebration Day. Students will be welcomed back to 25 High Street with a special day schedule. All students are expected to attend, beginning at 8AM. Students will have shortened periods in the morning and then have an afternoon celebration with games, activities, and Food Trucks on the back campus. Again, all students will be dismissed at the end of the day at the bell time of 2:30 PM.

From Thursday September 5, 2024, and onwards, students will return to the regular 5 periods schedule that starts at 8:00 AM and ends at 2:30 PM. All students would have received their timetables and become familiar with getting around the building by this time.
