What is a School Council?
As required by provincial regulations, all schools must establish a School Council. The School Council consists of representatives from the parent community and plays a vital role in advocating for the best educational experience for our students. It serves as a collaborative platform for parents and community members to engage in improving student achievement and school performance, while also facilitating communication between the school and the community.
-
Advising the principal and, when needed, the school board
-
Prioritizing student interests and promoting their learning
-
Supporting school success planning goals
-
Encouraging parental and community involvement
-
Fostering a positive attitude toward public education
How to get involved:
School Councils are required to hold annual elections to select voting members and various positions, including the School Council Chair. Elected members vote on council matters, represent the community’s views, and make recommendations to the principal. Please be aware that you do not need to be an elected member of the School Council to attend meetings. All parents and guardians are welcome to join us at any meeting.
If you’re interested in becoming an elected member of the School Council, please complete the nomination form below and send it to: [email protected].
