Secondary School Course Selections Can Now Be Approved in Parent Portal
Secondary school students, as well as Grade 8 students entering secondary schools in September, recently submitted their course selections for the 2021-22 school year. This process was completed from February 11 to March 2 using the XELLO platform.
Now that this process is complete, parents/guardians must review and approve students’ course selections. Course requests can be accessed via Parent Portal. Please review and approve students’ selections as soon as you can to help ensure their placements in requested courses.

De-streaming
This year, parents/guardians will notice a difference when approving Grade 9 Mathematics courses. Grade 9 students who would have chosen “applied” or “academic” Mathematics will be enrolled in the same math course. This shift begins the process of de-streaming all Grade 9 courses, which is an initiative led by the Ontario Government.
De-streaming is an important equity measure that ends the practice of placing students into “academic” or “applied” courses. Research has shown that streaming has created negative outcomes and has limited opportunities for post-secondary advancement for many students.
