Threat at Huntington Park

June 13, 2022

Dear Huntington Park,

This letter is to inform you that we learned of a possible threat to our school community today. The possible threat, written in the form of graffiti on a bathroom wall, refers to a shooting.

Following our Safe Schools protocol, we immediately contacted Hamilton Police Service. Police are investigating.

HWDSB is also investigating this incident further under our Student Behaviour and Discipline Policy and will take appropriate action.

This possible threat follows many others in a disturbing trend in our school communities.

We take incidents like these very seriously. We continue to work with our school community to ensure students understand the impact threats have on individuals and the overall school climate.

We know this situation may make students anxious or upset. If so, you may want to refer to tips for adults supporting children and youth after distressing events. Students and families are encouraged to reach out to staff for support.

Students may wish to use the HWDSB Helps app, an anonymous way to find help for themselves for one another. Students can text 905-963-0066, download the app for iOS and Android, or engage in the web chat at www.hwdsb.on.ca/hwdsbhelps.

We thank all families for their understanding. We thank police for their support.

If you have any questions, please contact our school office.

Sincerely,

Pat Petruccelli
Principal
