Hi All,

Land Acknowledgement

We say our Land Acknowledgements on Mondays and listen to Cheri Maracle sing O Canada in Mohawk (on YouTube) on Fridays.  We reached out to our Indigenous Education Consultant, Lisa King, and found that there was a Land Acknowledgement created by inner city summer students who attended Camp Empower.  So we will begin to use this Land Acknowledgement to continue to support our students learning.  Here it is: Welcome to Turtle Island

Also in the new year, our classrooms will begin to create their own Land Acknowledgments to be read during the morning announcements.   Our intention is to continue to support our students in their learning our the Indigenous Community, the importance of the Land Acknowledgement and our relationship with  our earth.

I would like to share Ms. Perks our Student Teacher in Mrs. Hewson’s class.  She discussed and made Wampum Belts with our grade 1/2 students.

Dogs are wonderful pets that people and families enjoy.  One special quality is that we have to walk them.  This is great exercise for you and your pet!  What is even better is that when you, your child and your dog are walking to school, you are modelling walking to school versus driving your car.  This is very helpful with reducing car congestion at the beginning and end of the school day.

Some people have had different experiences with dogs as compared to yourself.  We all want to have a welcoming and safe school community for all.  To respect one another, if you choose to walk your dog to school at the beginning or end of the school day, when you arrive at the school, walk your dog in the park versus the asphalt playground.  Also please pick up your dog waste.

Together we can have a welcoming for community for all.
