Temporary Accommodation Solution for New Students in the Mountainview Heights and Surrounding Area

At the May 8, 2023, Board meeting, Trustees approved a temporary short-term accommodation solution, via the Boundary Review process (Policy and Procedure), to help relieve enrolment pressure at Mary Hopkins Elementary School.  The approval was through the Facilities Master Plan Accommodation Strategy Schedule.  The objective of the proposed short-term accommodation strategy is to address the pressure and impact the Mountainview Heights development has on both Mary Hopkins and Flamborough Centre.

Taking effect in the 2024-2025 school year, the short-term accommodation strategy is designed to help to balance current enrolment and reduce capacity pressure that is projected to intensify in the immediate short-term.

The proposed temporary change will direct only new students in the English Program JK-5 that live south of Highway 5 to Flamborough Centre. A map of the area in question is on the next page.

During the public meeting at Mary Hopkins on November 30, 2023, at 6 p.m. you are invited to participate and provide feedback on the short-term accommodation solution for Mary Hopkins Elementary School.  HWDSB staff will provide an overview of the short-term school assignment, answer questions and gather input from community members.  You may also provide your feedback online via EngageHWDSB (www.engagehwdsb.ca).

For your awareness, an Advisory Panel, including representatives from School Council will meet on November 16, 2023, at Mary Hopkins at 6 p.m. The Advisory Panel will review short-term accommodation plans and provide community insight to HWDSB staff prior to the public meeting that you are invited to participate in.

If you require translation services and/or child-minding services so you can participate in the public meeting, please reach out to your school’s principal.
