Cohorting Removed from Recess – Over the course of last week, we transitioned to cohort free outdoor recess play.  Our students have enjoyed exploring new areas to play and reconnecting with friends in other cohorts.  This is a lot of change for some students, so we will be sure to monitor the play over the next few weeks and ensure that all students understand their routines and expectations.

End of Day Pick-Up – A reminder that classrooms may be using our outdoor spaces at the end of the day.  Programs like Physical Education often take place outside during the warm weather months.  If you do arrive early, please wait away from classroom programs on the field and the blacktop area until 3:35 pm.  Thank you for your continued cooperation.

Parent Involvement Equity Event – HWDSB’s Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) will be hosting a virtual session on Human Rights and Equity at HWDSB. All HWDSB families and educators are invited to attend this session. This session will include presentations on Human Rights, Culturally Responsive and Relevant Pedagogy (CRRP), and Equity in Action, and discuss how historically and currently underserved students are supported at HWDSB. Presentations will be followed by a moderated question and answer session. A recording will be available after the session for on-demand viewing after the event. Event details can be found below:

Date: Tuesday, March 28, 2022
Time: 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Highlighting Isolation Rules – The biggest change for families is related to someone in your household who is isolating with a positive COVID-19 test, COVID-19 symptoms, or someone isolating waiting for test results.  Previously, all household members would be required to isolate along with their symptomatic/positive household members and students were not to attend school.
As a result of the changes to the screening tools on March 21, students will not need to isolate if any of the below are true:
  • you are 18 or older and have received your booster shot, or
  • are 17 or younger and are fully vaccinated, or
  • have tested positive in the last 90 days (using a rapid antigen, rapid molecular, or PCR test) and have completed your isolation period, and/or
  • your ill/positive household member is isolating because of  COVID-19 symptoms but has already tested negative on one PCR or rapid molecular test, or two rapid antigen tests.
If none of the above are true, you would fail the daily screening and would be advised to isolate alongside your symptomatic/positive household member.
If you do not need to isolate because of one of the above reasons for the next 10 days you should wear a mask in public settings (including at school),  avoid activities requiring masks to be removed, and avoid high-risk settings.
