Lockdown Drill – The term “Lockdown” is used when there is a major incident or threat of school violence within the school or in relation to the school.  As part of our Secure School Protocol, the staff and students at Mary Hopkins practice Lockdown procedures twice annually. Prior to each drill, teachers will have age-appropriate discussions regarding the drill and their expectations. To ensure that there is no confusion, these rehearsals are clearly identified as drills via an announcement.  We have planned our second lockdown drill of the school year for Wednesday, February 2nd. Please contact the school if you have any further questions regarding the Lockdown procedures at Mary Hopkins and/or review the Secure Schools Infographic.

Kindergarten Registration – Beginning Monday, February 7, families with children who turn four this calendar year can register for Kindergarten.  Information on how to register can be found on the HWDSB Kindergarten page.  Register online (link will go live when registration opens on Monday, February 7, 2022) by creating an account and entering your details or by picking up a package at the front door of Mary Hopkins during regular office hours (8:30 am – 4:00 pm).

Out of Catchment – With kindergarten registration beginning, we want to remind families that all children are expected to attend their home school.  At this time both Mary Hopkins and Flamborough Centre are closed to out-of-catchment students. If you have moved during the school year, use the find your school site to determine your catchment area school.  Students can finish the remainder of the 2021/2022 school year at Mary Hopkins but will need to register for their in-catchment school for September 2022.  Schools closed to Out-of-Catchment do not accept applications for Out-of-Catchment and do not generate a waitlist.  For further details on the Out of Catchment policy please visit https://www.hwdsb.on.ca/find/#tabs-112
