Mary Hopkins News – April 19

Hello Families and Welcome Back.  We hope that everyone was able to have a safe and enjoyable Spring Break. Unfortunately, it will be a bit longer before we have everyone back in the building.  We know the shift to remote is tough for many families.  Please connect with our staff if you have any questions.  We are here to support you.

Upcoming Dates

April 19 & 20 – Transition and Remote Preparation Days
April 21 – Regular remote instructional day
April 21 – HWDSB Information Night – Wednesday, April 21, 2021 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Details about this session will be communicated soon. (Growth and Development and Sexual Health Strand)
April 28 – School Council – 6:30 pm via Teams

Shift to Remote Learning – Over the Spring Break, Ontario announced that schools across the province will move to remote learning.  On April 19 & 20, staff will be supporting remote learning preparation by connecting with families, distributing devices, resetting passwords, distributing schedules, etc.  Students can access learning activities on the HUB on April 20.   The regular remote instructional day will begin at 9:10 am on Wednesday.

Device Distribution – Families who have borrowed a school iPad in the past, will be contacted by tomorrow to set up a Tuesday pickup time.  These families do not need to make a new request for this transition period.  Please contact the office if you have not borrowed an iPad previously, but feel that you will need one to support your child’s learning (Grade 1-5).

How to Support your Child During Remote Learning

  • Find an appropriate space that allows them to work free from distractions.
  • Be on time and ready to learn.  There will be nutrition breaks scheduled for snacks and lunch.
  • Respect the privacy of all. Screenshots and recordings are not allowed.
  • Children may occasionally require support, however, it is important to allow your child to participate in independent learning.
  • Remember that parent conversations with the teacher will need to occur outside of instructional time.

Need Assistance – Parents can reach out by phone or email during regular office hours.  Our phones and email will be monitored remotely.  Messages will be returned in a timely manner.
