Mary Hopkins News – Oct 25

We hope you have enjoyed the beautiful fall throughout October.  We have been very lucky to have required only one indoor recess due to rain.  However, the weather is shifting and we have a chilly week ahead.  It may be time for parents to dig out mittens and hats, given this week’s predicted cold mornings (brrr!).

October Spirit Day –Mary Hopkins students are invited to participate in a Spirit Day on Friday, October 3oth by wearing a Halloween costume or dressing in fall colours (orange, red, yellow). Students will participate in the full school day in this attire.  Students wearing costumes should opt for a simplified version and leave extra accessories at home.  Food sharing is not allowed at this time. Please do not send in class treats as they will not be distributed.

Reorganization of Classrooms- As communicated last week, there will be some reorganization in all HWDSB schools to adjust the staffing to meet our actual enrollment numbers.  Direct communication with impacted families will be made beginning Tuesday, October 27.  Reorganization can be a difficult experience, which is why it is important to validate your child’s feelings while still presenting the change in a positive way. The success of our new classrooms will be determined by the attitudes that we as educators and families demonstrate to the children.

Progress Reports – This week, students will receive their fall Progress Reports. In this report, parents will see a checkmark to indicate their child’s general progress towards meeting the subject expectations.  The purpose of the Progress Report is also to communicate how well each student has demonstrated the necessary Learning Skills (Responsibility, Organization, Independent Work, Collaboration, Initiative, and Self-Regulation). These learning skills are equally important for your child’s success in school.  Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions regarding the Progress Report.

Media Consent and Verification Forms – Due Friday, October 30. Please visit your parent portal site to fill in these important forms.
