Mary Hopkins News – Sept 20

Hello Families,

We had a smooth start last week.  Thank you to all for your patience during the planning stages.

Morning Drop Off – A reminder that caregivers should not be parking in the school lot in the morning.  Families can park on Main Street or in the church lot.  You can enter the schoolyard through the back or church side gates.  Our lot can be used as a Kiss & Ride drop off for Grade 1-5 students.  For student safety, we ask that you not stop in the middle of the lot but drive right up to the gate.  Please follow the directions outlined in the attachment. What to do if Your Child is Sick – Last week, the Ministry developed a screening created specifically for schools.  Please use this each morning to determine if your child meets the criteria for school attendance.  https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/. Below are 3 charts that were developed to support caregivers, staff and students in determining the next step if symptoms develop at home or at school. Please take a moment to review the charts.

School Council – Consider getting involved in School Council in the upcoming school year.  School Council meetings are open to any parent, school staff and community member.  If you think you cannot attend meetings on a regular basis you are still welcome to attend at any time. The first Virtual School Council Meeting is set for Wednesday, September 30 at 6:30 pm. We meet one evening a month during the school year.  We look forward to seeing all past and new council members at our first meeting.  Details to come.

Orange Shirt Day – September 30 – Orange Shirt Day is an event that started in 2013. It was designed to educate people and promote awareness about the Indian residential school system and the impact this system had on Indigenous communities for more than a century in Canada.  Wear an Orange Shirt to show your support.
