Mary Hopkins Information and News

Morning Bells  – There are two bells that ring each morning.  The bell at 8:55 AM indicates that school supervision begins.  At this time, staff supervisors will be in our schoolyard, ready to meet busses and accept Kindergarten students for drop off.  Please be aware that the schoolyard is not supervised prior to this time.

A second bell rings at 9:10 AM each morning to indicate the start of the school day.  We encourage parents to work in partnership with our staff to support punctual daily attendance.  Being on time each day is important as it helps to develop a sense of routine and responsibility, allows students to begin their day with their peers, and ensures that important curriculum is not missed.

Bus Transportation – HWSTS (Hamilton Wentworth Student Transportation Services) is responsible for transporting our eligible riders each day to and from Mary Hopkins.  Delays will be posted on the HWSTS website www.hamiltonschoolbus.ca or by calling 905-523-2318.  Parents can also sign up for email reminders via the website.

We would like to thank our student bus monitors as they do a fantastic job of helping to load and unload students each day and are there to assist our driver in the case of an emergency.  Parents are reminded that while our bus monitors can assist with the safety rules, they are not equipped or expected to discipline other riders.  We ask that parents speak with the driver, call the bus company or school if an issue needs to be addressed between students.

Labelling Clothing – Each year we donate many bags of unclaimed lost and found items to our local thrift stores. Labelling your child’s items (coats, boots, shoes) increases the likelihood that if found, the item will be returned to them.  We ask that you remind your child to look several times in the lost and found for missing items, as it can take a day or two for items to make their way into our bin.  For families ordering from Mabel’s Labels, please connect your purchase with our school fundraising account. These funds are allocated to support student subsidies (i.e. food days, trips, school supplies).
