Mary Hopkins Information and News

Swim Team – Swim team try-outs continue this week at the YMCA.  Please review Friday’s communication from Mrs. Widdup and contact her if you have your Vulnerable Sector Screening and are able to drive students from the YMCA back to the school.  For twitter users, Mrs Widdup will be providing updates and notices through @MaryHopkinsPE.  Next practice is Thursday.  Be on the deck at 7:45 am.

Bringing Items from Home – We are noticing many students bring items from homes such as stuffed animals, dolls, trading cards and electronics.  It is important that students understand that we cannot assure that these items will be safe once they are brought to school.  It is for this reason that we recommend that very special and important items stay at home.  If students do choose to bring items from the home to school, please remind them to store them in their backpack during instructional time.

Head Lice – Head lice (pediculosis) occurs from time to time in each school. Anyone can get head lice. School children get lice more than adults. When children play, their heads often touch. Lice crawl from head to head. Head lice are spread by direct contact only (e.g. head to head, shared clothing).

Help us reduce the spread of head lice.  Please check your children on a regular basis and if you do find that your child has head lice, please inform the school. Your child will never be identified to other parents. An approved treatment (such as Nix, R&C Shampoo, or Resultz) should be used before your child returns to school. Consult with Bug Busters, your pharmacist or other medical practitioner about the best product to use.  You can also visit www.hamilton.ca/healthyschools to access “Bug Buster Head Lice Clinic Schedule”.  They do offer free treatment supports.
