Weekly News at Mary Hopkins – Sept. 30

Upcoming Events

Monday September 30 – Orange Shirt Day. Orange Shirt Day is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission (SJM) residential school commemoration event held in Williams Lake, BC, Canada, in the spring of 2013.  It grew out of Phyllis’ story of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the Mission, and it has become an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually.

Wednesday October 2 – Annual Meet the Teacher Evening 5-7 pm .  BBQ, Pumpkin Sales, Book Fair and Classroom Visits from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.  See flyer for more details (Meet the Staff Flyer).

Sunday October 6 – Pizza and milk orders due on School Cash online.

Monday October 15 – Pizza and Milk Mondays start.

Mary Hopkins Information and News

Apples @ Mary Hopkins
Did you know that the student’s at Mary Hopkins have apples available most days?  These apples are provided free of charge for our students to snack on at nutrition break.  We thank the AM Rotary Club for supporting our school by donating the funds required to purchase the apples and Mrs. Gunn for picking them up each week.

School Council/PAC
The first School Council meeting was held last week.  Sumaira Waqar and Nicole Christie were elected as co-chairs for the 2019/2020 school year.  We are confirming the meeting schedule and will have them posted once finalized.  All parents/guardians are welcome to attend meetings at any time.

Lost and Found
Once again, our Lost and Found is overflowing.  If you are missing items at home, there is a good chance that it is in our lost and found.  We encourage you to stop by during child’s pick up or drop off, or during our Meet the Staff evening.  All unclaimed items are donated to charity.

Terry Fox Run
Thank you to the many volunteers who came out to support the Terry Fox run at Memorial Park.  The students had a great afternoon supporting an important fundraising event while being active.  Our donation totals are not in yet but will be shared with the community once tallied.
