Upcoming Events

Monday September 23 – First School Council/PAC Meeting – 6:30 pm (Library)

Friday September 27 – Terry Fox Run.  Period 5 & 6. Bring a toonie or make a donation online.  Voluteers with Vulnerable Sector Screenings are needed to support this event.
Lunch Lady – Lunch Lady will begin this Friday and continue each Friday throughout the school year.

Monday September 30 – Orange Shirt Day. Orange Shirt Day is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission (SJM) residential school commemoration event held in Williams Lake, BC, Canada, in the spring of 2013.  It grew out of Phyllis’ story of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the Mission, and it has become an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually.

Wednesday October 2 – Annual Meet the Teacher Evening 5-7 pm .  BBQ, Pumpkin Sales, Book Fair and Classroom Visits from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.  See flyer for more details (Meet the Staff Flyer).

Mary Hopkins Information and News

Enter from Mill Street
A reminder to families that our security buzzer has been moved to our Mill Street entrance.  We encourage you to use street parking near this entry when arriving midday for pickups and drop offs.  For our students’ safety, we are working towards reducing the number of visitors walking through our school yard during the instructional day (9:10 am – 3:30 pm).

Religious Accommodations
Hamilton Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) is committed to working with students and families to create an inclusive classroom and school environments. As we begin the new school year, we would like
to remind families that schools are committed to working with you to provide appropriate and reasonable religious accommodations as per your requests.  If you require religious accommodation for your child(ren), you are advised to contact your child’s school at the beginning of the year. Call the teacher or the principal to discuss any religious accommodations your child may need.

Programs through Social Work Services
Check out the Information Night flyers and brochures for two-parent/caregiver groups offered by Social Work Services starting in October 2019. The Cool Little Kids group is for parent/caregivers of students in JK – Grade 2 and the Families Worrying Less Together group is for parent/caregivers of students in Grade 3-6. The target audience for both groups is parents/caregivers of children who struggle with worries and anxious behaviours.
SWS offers these groups several times throughout the year.  The first Information Session will be October 15, 2019, and the fall session of the group will start the week after on October 22, 2019 for six weeks. To sign up for the Information Night, parents/caregivers can refer themselves, through email or voicemail as outlined in the flyer.
