Welcome to the 2019/20 School Year

Welcome to the 2019/20 School Year
Our staff has been busy this week preparing their classrooms and are looking forward to the new school year.   The first day of school will be Tuesday, September 3 for our Grade 1-5 students and Wednesday, September 4 for our Kindergarten students.
School begins at 9:10 am and end at 3:30 pm each day.  Playground supervision begins 15 minutes prior to the entry bell (8:55 pm).  Teachers will meet their students at the entry doors each morning and dismiss all students to the playground at the end of the day.
On the first day of school our teachers will be outside in the morning holding signs indicating their name and grade.  If you are unsure of your child’s assignment, one of our staff will be happy to assist you in locating your child’s teacher.  Teachers will also be available to assist our student arriving by bus. As the first day can be overwhelming for our little ones, it is also helpful to send your child with a note, reminding them of their first-day dismissal plan (e.g. playground pick up, bus stop and route etc.).

Students are eligible for transportation if their in catchment school exceeds the following criteria. Kindergarten – exceeds 1.0 km, Gr. 1-8 – exceeds 1.6 km

If you are eligible for transportation, you would have received a communication from the transportation department in August.  If you believe you are eligible and have not received notification from transportation, please contact HWSTS (https://www.hamiltonschoolbus.ca/, 905.523.2318).

If you are a courtesy rider, you will need to resubmit a courtesy transportation form for September.  It is important that you make alternate transportation arrangements for the first few weeks of school. We understand that this may be an inconvenience, but our school needs time to assure that all eligible riders have a seat on the bus before we approve courtesy transportation.  Each year routes are adjusted and new families arrive, all which make it difficult to predict how many empty bus seats are available until the school year begins.   Please be aware that approval in a previous year, does not guarantee approval in the current year.
