Principal’s Corner – November 2019

Norwood Park has been a busy place over the past few weeks. Our Grade 2s visited the Children’s International Museum for a fun half day of hands-on learning. Our swim team had a very successful meet and we are very proud of how our students represented themselves and Norwood Park at the meet, staying to cheer on their teammates. Thank you to our coaches and volunteers who helped make this meet such a success.

On the volleyball court, playoffs are starting for our Senior Girls’ team. Good luck, girls! Our Senior Boys’ team’s season has come to an end, but we would like to recognize their hard work and development this season. Thank you to our volleyball coaches!

Last week, we marked Remembrance Day with a Grade 8-led program over our PA, as a whole-school gym assembly was not possible due to the on-going construction. Grade 8 students read poems in French and English, and a student shared his rendition of the Last Post.  Classes made poppy wreaths to bring down to the front foyer and student cadets visited our primary and junior classrooms.

Bullying Prevention and Awareness Week

Bullying Prevention and Awareness Week (Nov. 18-22) is a time when teachers and students are continuing their work on making Norwood a safe and caring space for all. They are engaging in new learning with several initiatives and resources offered by HWDSB. For example, all classes are learning about HWDSB Helps a free and anonymous way for students to find help for themselves and one another. Please chat with your child about the activities being offered in their classroom.

We invite you to follow us on twitter as we share classroom examples and connect with your child’s teacher or the Vice Principal and or Principal if you have any further concerns or questions.

Fall trips continue with Grade 8 students visiting the Steam and Technology Museum and some of our primary classes will be visiting Dundurn Castle in December.

Winter Drop Off & Pick Up

As the roads become trickier to navigate because they are lined with snowbanks, we would like to remind parents and caregivers to continue to be respectful neighbours when picking up or dropping off your children. We’ve had some visits from bylaw officers during the morning and afternoon high traffic times around the school this week. Please be mindful of the posted parking regulations.
