Principal’s Corner: Goals for the year, new eMax (SORA) App & upcoming events

Welcome to the first day of Autumn! We had a great day of learning on our PA Day. Together we set our goals for the year for reading, math and positive school climate. We are excited to work towards these goals and watch our students explore, grow and learn this year.

New eMax (SORA) App

I am very excited to share information about eMAX(SORA), the new HWDSB App that is also accessible through web browsers. eMax is the HWDSB’s entry point to eBooks and eAudiobooks. It can be accessed through any browser or the eMax SORA app from the HWDSB Catalogue. This is available free at school and at home for all students. Upcoming events

Coming up this week is our first School Council meeting on Tuesday, September 24 at 6pmIf you are interested in nominating someone for the School Council executive, please download the nomination form and submit to the office by September 24th or bring it to the first council meeting. NEW this year is the pending formation of a Home and School Association. There will be a presentation at the School Council meeting on Tuesday.  

Thursday, September 26th is Terry Fox Day. Our students will be running to support the Terry Fox Foundation. Our whole school will be running together in the morning. Our course route is all on school property this year. Please make sure your child comes prepared to participate with safe shoes to run or walk in, weather appropriate clothes, sunscreen and a refillable water bottle. Friday, September 27th is Lunch Lady Day. This is a reminder that Lunch Lady Day will be every Friday this year. Please visit http://thelunchlady.ca/ to register or place an order.

On Monday, September 30th, we will observe Orange Shirt Day to honour the survivors, victims and the lasting effects of Canada’s Residential Schools.We wear orange to helps raise awareness of the residential school experience, to ensure that every child knows they matter, and to work toward a better future for all people. This Monday, please wear orange to honour the lives lost and the survivors of residential schools.
