Norwood Park Values on Equity and Human Rights

At Norwood Park, we stand by the principles of human rights, equity and inclusion, and are committed to a learning and work environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect, supported and accepted, and free from discrimination and harassment.

Through the Equity Action Plan we are proactively supporting a positive culture and environment where all students and staff feel safe, supported and accepted, and are working to remove systemic barriers and ensure that school and classroom practices reflect and respond to the diversity of students, staff and the community at large by:

  • Developing and integrating culturally relevant and responsive teaching methods to ensure accurate representation of diverse voices and perspectives;
  • Developing equity, anti-colonial, anti-racism and anti-oppression leadership through professional learning and creation of community of practice/learning for administrators and educators; and
  • Conducting equity and diversity audits of school resource, including books, media and other media to remove biased or outdated resources which do not reflect our anti-colonial, anti-racist and anti-oppression frameworks.

HWDSB learning and work spaces are welcoming, respectful, accessible and free from systemic discrimination, harassment and different forms of oppression for all students and staff.

Students who have experienced harassment or discrimination are encouraged to reach out to a trusted adult in the school for support. Families and community members with questions or concerns can contact the school at [email protected].
