Mary Hopkins News – Sept 26

Upcoming Dates

September 29 – Fire Drill #2

September 30 – National Day of Truth and Reconciliation – Orange Shirt Day

October 6 – School Council – 6:30 pm via Teams (Revised Date)

School Council – As we share many families with Flamborough Centre, we have revised our School Council meeting date to allow for greater participation.

Reorganization of Classrooms- School models are created each spring through the use of enrollment projections.  Each fall, a reorganization process occurs in all HWDSB schools to align school organizations with actual enrollment numbers.  As a result of this process, we will be required to make some classroom changes at Mary Hopkins. Direct communication with impacted families will occur beginning Wednesday, September 29.  Reorganization can be a difficult experience, which is why it is important to validate your child’s feelings while still presenting the change in a positive way. The success of our new classrooms will be determined by the attitudes that we as educators and families demonstrate to the children.

Testing for Symptomatic Individuals – A reminder to families that rapid testing, that can be booked at pharmacies, is for screening purposes only. It should not be used for symptomatic individuals or those who have been identified as a close contact.  Those failing the daily covid screening should visit the following website to book their test.  Testing Centres | City of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Prior to returning families will be asked to complete the new Attestation for Return to School.

Contact Information – Families will be receiving a contact sheet this week.  Please review the information, update any errors and return to school.

Terry Fox Run – Here at Mary Hopkins, we are embarking on the “Try Like Terry Challenge” and are setting a goal to see how far across Canada we can collectively run as a school.  Students will be participating in runs at various times over the next couple of weeks in Physical Education class and/or during DPA.  We will keep track of how many kilometres we run as we “try like Terry” to get from one coast of Canada to the other.

As part of this goal, we are also going to be fundraising for the Terry Fox Organization. Families can donate via the link to Fundraising Page:  http://www.terryfox.ca/MaryHopkinsPSWaterdown

We look forward to seeing how far we can collectively travel in this adventure, and as Terry Fox said; “Anything is possible if you try”.

Human Rights and Equity Community Advisory Committee – HWDSB is seeking applications for membership to join the Human Rights and Equity (HRE) Community Advisory Committee.  Visit the following link for more information.
