October 31st Event
Dear Families,
This Friday, we will be hosting a celebration at school during Periods 7 and 8, offering a variety of activities for students to enjoy. We recognize that Halloween is not observed by all members of our school community, and we are committed to creating an inclusive environment where every student feels respected and welcome.
🎲 Games Room: Fun and engaging activities for all.
📚 Reading Room: A cozy space for quiet reading and relaxation.
🤫 Quiet Room: A calm environment for students who prefer a low stimulation.
📝 Catch-Up Room: A dedicated space to complete any missed assignments.
💃 Dance in the Gym: A lively space for students who enjoy music and movement.
Participation in Halloween-themed activities, including costume dress-up or wearing black and orange, is entirely optional. We encourage families to have conversations with their children about what feels comfortable and respectful for them.
As part of our commitment to equity and inclusion, we ask that costumes be chosen thoughtfully. Costumes that reflect cultural identities, reinforce stereotypes, or include harmful elements (such as weapons or body-shaming themes) are not appropriate for school. Please consider the following questions when selecting a costume:
-
Does this costume make fun of or stereotype a group of people?
-
Am I borrowing from a culture or religion that is not my own?
-
Could this costume be harmful or offensive to others?
We look forward to a day of celebration that reflects the diversity and values of our school community. Thank you for your continued support in helping us create a safe and inclusive space for all students. During the day chips and pop will be available to purchase for $2.00 each. All profits go towards our Grade 8 Graduation Dinner and Dance.
