Kanetskare Week One Update

Dear Families,
What a fantastic first week back! The excitement and positivity were felt in our classrooms, hallways, and out on the field. It has been wonderful to see our Lightning students settling in and beginning the year with such great energy. As part of our start-up, we held a Welcome Back Assembly. A copy of the presentation is attached for you to review at home. We encourage you to take time with your child(ren) to discuss what the Big 6 means for them this year, and how they can live these values each day at school.

Important Reminders
  • Verification Forms – These are being sent home this week. If you have not yet received them, please watch for them. It is very important that all emergency information (addresses, phone numbers, emails) is kept up to date.
  • Field Consent Forms – A signed consent form must be returned for students to use the field during breaks and DPA time. Please send these in as soon as possible.
  • Nutrition Break Permission (Grades 7 & 8) – If your child has permission to go out for lunch, please complete the Nutrition Break Form in the Parent Portal by Friday, September 5th. Students with permission will be able to begin going out during the second nutrition break starting Monday, September 8th.
  • Locks & Lockers – Please ensure your child has a lock for their locker. All personal items and devices must be secured in lockers during the instructional day.
  • Agendas – We are asking students for a $5.00 donation to offset the cost of school agendas. Payment can be made through School Cash Online or brought to the office.
  • Plans of Care – Plans of Care are in place for students with prevalent medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, and anaphylaxis) as well as other conditions. These plans outline how staff will respond to student needs and are reviewed annually.
    • Returning students: packages will be sent home to update any changes.
    • New students: if you have not yet notified the school, please contact us so that a Plan of Care can be created.
    • Students requiring EpiPens must carry one with them at all times, and a second EpiPen must be provided to the school.
  • School Council – Every Ontario school is required to have a School Council that works collaboratively with the principal to support student achievement and enhance accountability. We welcome all parents/guardians who are willing to volunteer their time.
    • Annual elections are held to identify voting members and roles such as School Council Chair.
    • You do not need to be elected to attend meetings—everyone is welcome.
    • To declare your interest in becoming an elected member, please complete the attached nomination  School Council Form. You may also nominate another parent/guardian.
    • Nomination forms must be received before the start of our  first meeting on Thursday, September 18th from 6:30–7:30 p.m. in the Library.
School Council is a great way to support your child’s education, and we look forward to working together.

Save the Date
We are excited to invite you to our 50th Anniversary Celebration and School Open House on Thursday, October 16th from 4:00–8:00 p.m.
This will be a wonderful opportunity to meet teachers, connect with other families, and take a stroll down memory lane as we celebrate 50 years of Kanétskare.

Thank you for your continued support in making this a smooth and positive start to the school year. Together, we are building a community where every Lightning student feels a strong sense of belonging and pride.
Be You, Be Excellent!
