There are TWO ways to help:
-
Donate through School Cash Online towards our Novel Studies program. Official tax receipts will be available for donations over $20.00

Donate gently used or new books for our General Interest section in the Library Commons.
We will also be running a friendly classroom competition to see who can collect the most books. The winning classroom will receive an ice cream party! Donated books can be sent to school with students during the week of February 18-21. Thank you for your generosity!

Black History Month
February is Black History Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the achievements, contributions, and resilience of Black individuals throughout history. At Kanétskare, we are highlighting the excellence of our Black students and the amazing things they are doing in our school community. Here are a few examples:
-
Mathematics: A student demonstrating exceptional problem-solving and creative thinking skills.
-
Public Speaking: A student using powerful storytelling and confident communication to engage audiences.
-
Global Citizenship: A student analyzing world events and seeking innovative solutions to global challenges.
Let’s continue to celebrate and uplift Black excellence this month and beyond!

Kindness Week
During the week of February 17th, the entire school will take part in a kindness lesson focusing on the power of words and their impact. Each class will create a pledge on the power of words, incorporating our early focus on the Seven Grandfathers Teaching. These pledges will be displayed on one of our bulletin boards in the front foyer. This is a great opportunity to encourage positive interactions and thoughtful communication among students.
Pizza Days Update
Two of our scheduled Pizza Days fell on snow days. These missed dates will be added to the end of the cycle to ensure students still receive their orders. Therefore, we will have pizza days on March 20th and March 27th.

Pink Shirt Day
On Wednesday, February 26th, we encourage all students and staff to wear pink in support of Pink Shirt Day, an important initiative that raises awareness about bullying prevention and kindness. This day is a reminder that we must always stand up for one another and create a safe and inclusive school environment.
Cell Phone Reminder
We have noticed that many students are keeping cell phones in their hoodies during instructional time. Just a reminder that all devices must be placed into lockers at the start of the school day. If you need to reach your child, please call the office or email the school. Students should not be texting or calling parents/guardians from personal devices during school hours. If a student needs to contact home, they are welcome to come to the office to make a call.

Use of Field Consent Form Reminder
We are fortunate that our playground connects to the City of Hamilton-owned HAAA grounds, and we appreciate our 50-year partnership with the city. As we develop a new shared access agreement, families should be aware that the field is not HWDSB property. Students wishing to access the sports field during school hours, including outdoor nutrition breaks, must complete and return the consent form that was due on Thursday, February 13th. Supervision will continue on both the paved area and the field.
