Dear Ryerson Families,

We are continuing to have a great start to the school year!  We are so proud of how our students have adjusted to being back at school and we are thrilled to be back together as a school community.  Thank you to our students, families, and staff for your flexibility and support as we navigate the school year together.

SUPERVISION:

A reminder that supervision starts at 8:25am.  Please ensure your child is not arriving prior to 8:25 am as there are no staff supervising students before that time. Students are doing a great job lining up before school and remaining in their class cohorts. We appreciate that students are starting the day in their lines with their masks on.

STUDENT DROP OFF/PICK-UP:

All parents/guardians/caregivers are required to wear a mask on school property.   When dropping off or picking up your child, please do not stand in the school yard.

PARENT PORTAL START-UP FORMS:

If you have not already done so, please access the Parent Portal to complete the School Start-Up Forms.  If you are having difficulty accessing the Parent Portal, please contact the school and we will be happy to assist you.  Please complete these forms as soon as possible.

SAFETY DRILLS:

Each year our school is required to have various drills to help prepare our staff and students in the event of an emergency. This includes Fire Drills, Hold and Secure, Shelter In Place, Lockdown and Bomb Threat Drills.  While these drills will be slightly adjusted this year to ensure we are physical distancing, it is important for our students and staff to be aware of the procedures and safety expectations in the case of an emergency.

NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH & RECONCILLIATION (ORANGE SHIRT DAY):

At HWDSB, we respect the longstanding relationships with the local Indigenous communities, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Six Nations of the Grand River.

Thursday September 30th is Orange Shirt Day and a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.   On this day we wear orange to honour the story of Phyllis Webstad, who in the early 1970s had her orange shirt taken away on her first day at the St. Joseph Mission (SJM) Residential School in British Columbia.

We encourage our staff and students to wear orange on September 30th to honour the children whose lives were lost, and the survivors of Residential Schools.

TERRY FOX RUN:

Our school will be participating in the Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research.  We will be inviting parents to make an online donation on behalf of the school, if interested.  More details of this event will be shared in the near future.

SCHOOL COUNCIL:

Our first School Council Meeting will take place on Tuesday September 28th at 6:15 pm virtually via MS Teams.  A nomination form was previously sent home with students.  If you wish to attend the School Council meeting, please contact the school no later than Monday September 27th at 3:00 pm in order to receive the virtual link.

RYERSON AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM AT RYERSON REC. CENTRE

The Ryerson After School Program is completely free and it’s offered 3 days a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 3-6pm. We swim twice a week on Wednesdays and Fridays, offer a daily snack and we have plans to bring in some really cool special guests throughout the session.
