Update to Nutrition Break Procedures
Dear Families,
We want to let you know about an important change to our Nutrition Break routine that began today.
Why are we making this change?
Before the holidays, all students went outside at the same time during Nutrition Break. With our school population now over 455 students and two new portables added to the blacktop area, space during inclement weather has become very limited. Before the holidays, we often had indoor recess because there wasn’t enough room outside. To ensure students get more outdoor time and to prepare for upcoming work on the field by the City of Hamilton later this year, we moved as of today to a staggered schedule.

What this looks like?
- Grade 6: Outside first, then eat
- Grades 7 & 8: Eat first, then go outside
- Class 67A and Sage Quest: Grade 6 students follow their cohort; Grade 7 and 8 students follow theirs
Outdoor Areas: Students can use the track, inside field area, or blacktop. The hill and picnic tables are off-limits.
This change will allow us to maximize outdoor time and keep students safe and supervised. Staff reviewed these changes with students this morning and I visited classes to answer questions. Today both breaks went very smoothly and students commented on how they enjoyed having more space to play. Thank you for your understanding and support as we make this adjustment to better serve our growing school community.
