Helen Detwiler School, named after the 1982 Hamilton School Board Chairperson, is a JK to Grade 8 school located just east of Upper Wellington Street between Rymal Road and Stone Church Road. It is a large and active building, with a balanced day structure, supporting 450 students from various socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Helen Detwiler opened in May 1992, and was originally designed as a JK to 5 school. It stayed this way until 2003, when through the Hamilton-Wentworth Revitalization Project (boundary changes), Detwiler drew students from Burkholder, Cardinal Heights, and Thornebrae schools that reflects our school present day. The students at Detwiler are fortunate to have many sports and cultural activities to participate in, with a very dynamic parent volunteer compliment to assist our students in achieving to their fullest potential both academically and personally.
