Message to the Frank Panabaker Community

Dear Frank Panabaker Parents and Guardians,

We look forward to welcoming students back to school on Monday, March 21st and we hope that everyone has enjoyed a restful break. As we return to school, students will notice a few changes as a result of the direction provided to school boards through the Ministry and Public Health.

Masking

Masking continues to be a requirement at HWDSB schools until April 1, 2022. If you wish for your child to be exempt from wearing a mask at school, please complete the exemption form found in the Parent Portal before school begins on Monday, March 21st.

We recognize that the direction around masking at HWDSB is controversial and that families within the Frank Panabaker community hold opposing opinions on this issue. Our staff will be working together with our families to ensure a respectful, inclusive and welcoming environment for all students.

For more information, families should review the HWDSB Letter to Families.

Cohorting & Nutrition Breaks

Students will no longer remain in cohorts during nutrition breaks. Eating and outside break times remain the same for each class. Teachers will be taking class time to review new boundary lines and nutrition break expectations with students on Monday morning.

Cohorting & Classroom Seating

With more flexibility around seating arrangements, students may be seated individually, in partners or small groups. Teachers use various factors to determine seating plans in order to best support every child.

Visitors at Schools

At this time, we continue to limit visitors to the school building. Please help us reduce the number of visits to the office by ensuring that your child has everything they need for the school day as they leave each morning.

Students who Become Symptomatic at School

We will continue to contact families to pick up students who become symptomatic at school. A list of symptoms can be found on the provincial screener. Families are reminded to self-screen before coming to school and to adhere to the provincial screener when making decisions about whether a child is well enough to attend school.

This message is intended to complement the messaging shared by HWDSB and highlight the impact at Frank Panabaker School. For more details and information about changes to COVID Protocols and Public Health Guidelines in HWDSB schools, please review the HWDSB message shared with families on March 11, 2022.

The safety and well-being of our students is our primary concern and, while we look forward to the introduction of old and new school activities, practices and events, the updated protocols and guidelines will be implemented in a gradual and thoughtful manner.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Caitlin Evans
Principal

Ms. Cathy Calvano
Vice-Principal
