Coyote Sighting at Richard Beasley

Letter-Coyote-Richard Beasley

October 15, 2020

Dear Parents, Guardians and Caregivers,

As you may be aware, this morning, before students began arriving at school, an injured coyote was in the area. We immediately notified Animal Control through the City of Hamilton, and they quickly came to the school.

I want to thank students, families and staff for their patience this morning as we directed students into the school.

I would like to share the following information with you as a precaution and remind you of what to do if you encounter a coyote.

According to the City of Hamilton’s website, if you or your children encounter a coyote, please take the following steps to protect yourself:

  • Stay calm if a coyote approaches you and wait until they move on.
  • Shout, clap your hands together or make a loud noise to scare coyotes away.
  • Tell your children to stay away from coyotes and other wildlife.
  • Call Animal Services at 905-574-3433 to report injured or dead wildlife.

More information about what you can do about coyotes in the area can be found at the City of Hamilton’s website at https://www.hamilton.ca/animals-pets/wildlife/coyotes.

If you have any questions, please contact me at 905.387.5655.

Sincerely,

Lindsay Williams
Acting Principal
