eMAX (Sora) is the HWDSB’s e-book and e-audiobook library. It offers approximately 7000 popular titles which can be read in-browser or downloaded on computers, iPads and mobile devices. The Sora app is also available from the HWDSB App Catalogue.
A valid Student OEN or Staff ID is required to borrow e-books. Enter your 9-digit OEN or 7-digit Staff ID to sign in.
Tumblebooks
TumbleBook Library is an online collection of over 250 animated, talking picture e-books for children, including French and read-along chapter books! Follow the instructions below to access Tumblebooks:
- Go to The Hub and sign in with your username.
- Choose your Library Course then the blue Virtual Library button.
- Choose TumbleBook Library from the bottom of the Quick Links on the right side.

Starfall.com
Starfall.com is a free public service to teach children to read. Since then it has expanded to include language arts and mathematics for preschool up to fifth grade. Starfall’s emphasis on phonemic awareness, systematic sequential phonics, and common sight words has proven effective in teaching emergent readers.
This program emphasizes exploration, play, and positive reinforcement—encouraging children to become confident and intrinsically motivated. Starfall is an educational alternative to other entertainment choices for children and is especially effective for special education, homeschooling, and English language development (ELD, ELL, ESL)
