Millgrove Drinking Water Testing for Lead
Dear Families,
Recently, Millgrove Elementary School completed its annual water testing for lead in drinking water, in accordance with the provincial regulations (Ontario Regulation 243/07). An exceedance was identified from one of the two sinks within Room 113 (Kindergarten). The exceedance was only present in the standing sample collected.
Due to the recent school renovations and samples taken of this fixture in previous years, resampling was completed to confirm the result. The resample was below the standard in both the standing and flushed samples, which is positive.
In addition to informing the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, HWDSB’s Occupational Health and Safety Department has consulted with Hamilton Public Health Services to ensure appropriate corrective actions for the safety of students and staff. Millgrove’s flushing schedule will change from weekly to daily for all drinking water fixtures at the school to prevent lead from accumulating in the drinking water. Test results show this change would help to ensure safe drinking water.
If you have questions, please contact the school at [email protected] or 905-689-4544. For more information, visit the Drinking Water Testing for Lead page on the HWDSB website.
Thank you,
Nicole Lee
