McMaster Venture Outreach Workshops @ Highview
March 26, 2018 - March 27, 2018
Parents & Guardians,
On March 26th and 27th, Undergraduate Students from the McMaster University Engineering Program will be at Highview to lead grade related curriculum workshops for several of our classes to help our students become interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math (STEM) subject areas. Please see the following description from McMaster:
“Our goal with workshops is to capture children’s interest in science and engineering from a young age through
exciting hands-on activities with real world applications. Many students are put off by the complexity of STEM
subjects, we all need to work together to make sure the next generation is interested in STEM before they begin to
make big decisions about their high school courses to make sure they have all options open to them for postsecondaryeducation. In 2017, we were able to engage over 20,000 students and motivate them to continue on in.”
We thank Ms. Baschiera (Parent) for connecting us with these workshops and thank Ms. Sakins for coordinating workshops for the following classes this year at Highview:
Monday March 26th – Day 3 will involve classes of the following teachers: Ms. Toth (Gr. 2), Ms. Pecuh (Gr. 2), Ms. Sakins (Gr. 1), Ms. Wigood (Gr. 1)
Tuesday March 27th – Day 4 will involve classes of the following classes: 8A-Ms. Maciel, 8B-Mr. Moore, 6/7A-Mr. Riddell, 7A-Ms. Raspopov
