Principal Update Oct 19

Hello,

It was a full week at Ancaster Meadow. Our volleyball teams were especially busy with our senior girls’ team having a full day tournament and several after school games for our boys’ teams.  Today our grade 5 students participated in Student Votes, a provincial program to engage students in elections and democracy.

Some upcoming dates are:

Municipal Election Mon Oct 22 (Ancaster Meadow is a polling station site)

School Council (6:30pm) and Home & School (7:30pm) Tues Oct 23

Photo retake day Thurs Oct 25

Dairy Farmers of Ontario presentation to a number of classes

Terry Fox celebration Fri Oct 26

Progress Reports sent home Tues Oct 30

Parent Interviews Thurs Nov 1 4:00-6:30pm and Fri Nov 2 during the school day. Please contact teachers directly to arrange interview times. Nov 2 will be a PA Day for students and there will be no school for students.

Mathletics  is an online math tool that is available to students at Ancater Meadow. Some teacher incorporate Mathletics into the formal classroom work but all students have access to it for extra math practice. There are a number of parent math resources available as well. Your child has take-home access to Mathletics – they simply sign in with their school username and password using any compatible computer or mobile device. Please contact your child’s homeroom teacher for account information.

A reminder that provincial and board policies require all visitors to the school (including parents) to sign in at the Main Office when entering the school. Parents must come to the office when entering the school.

HWDSB Helps (formerly TipOff) is a free, anonymous reporting service at Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) in partnership with InTouch Mobile Canada. The service encourages two-way conversations so that students, staff and families can share concerns – and find help. HWDSB Helps shares anonymous reports with the appropriate school so it can be addressed using school/Board protocols. This is not a counselling service but can direct students in crisis to 911 or Kids Help Phone. Information can be found at: https://www.hwdsb.on.ca/secondary/supports/hwdsbhelps/

Have a great weekend,

Simon Goodacre, Principal
