November News

Progress Reports & Interviews:  We just completed our first formal reporting period.  IEPs and Progress Reports recently went home and we just concluded our Parent Teacher Interviews.  Hopefully, all families had a chance to talk to the teachers and set goals for the remainder of the term.

Remembrance Day:  With Remembrance Day falling on a Saturday this year, we will be holding our Remembrance Day Assembly on Friday to honour those who have served, or are serving in our military.  Assembly to take place at 11:40 am.

Sub Days:  School Council will once again be organizing monthly Sub Days.  Check the school website for dates.  Order forms will come home with your child each month.

Poinsettia Fundraiser:  School Council will also be holding the Poinsettia Sale due to popular demand!  Forms will be coming home and are also posted on the school website under School Council Fundraising.  Forms are due November 20th and plants will be available for pick up on December 6th.

Ray Lewis Gives Back:  Thank you to everyone who participated in our annual Food Drive.  It was a huge success this year!  There was a new twist on things this year, as our staff participated in the 10 Can Challenge.  We collected over 2000 food items for Neighbour to Neighbour, with 700 cans donated by the staff!  Class winners were Mrs. Cuffaro and Mrs. Foutris’ classes!  Thank you once again your participation!

International Languages:  Did you know that Ray Lewis hosts international language classes for students each week?  Greek, German, Arabic and Arabic/Dari are all offered.  If you are interested in your child learning another language, please visit hwdsb.on.ca to find out more!

Subscription Feature:  We recently held a subscription blitz for our school website!  Our school website holds a great deal of timely and important information for families.  When you subscribe, you will get an email notification when content is updated.  For our existing subscribers, please spread the word to your friends!  We are hoping to hit 300 subscribers by the end of the year!

Automated Attendance Calls:  Starting Wednesday, November 8th, we will be using an automated calling system as part of our safe arrival policy.  If you have not called the school with a valid reason for your child’s absence, you will receive an automated call asking you to provide that information to the school.  If you receive one of these calls, please call the school with that information so we can update our system.  You may call the school at any time to report and absence for your child.  If you have any questions about our automated calling system, please call the school.

Emergency Preparedness:  Each year, we engage in a variety of drills to ensure staff and students are aware of the proper procedures in case of emergency.  This year, we will be conducting 6 Fire Drills, 2 Lockdown drills, one Bomb Threat drill and one Hold and Secure and one Shelter in Place.  We are working with our Police partners to conduct these drills.

Movember:  Our Student Council is leading a Movember fundraiser this month.  Any spare change, old pennies and coins found in your couch, car or pockets are all accepted as part of the spare change fundraiser.  All funds will go to support Men’s Health.
