Student Protest

Grade 7 & 8 parents/guardians,

You may be aware of the upcoming planned student “walk-outs” that are in protest of the proposed provincial government changes set to be implemented in schools (class size, cell phone ban, cuts to education funding, etc.). These events have been widely circulated on Social Media – https://linktr.ee/studentssayno

We have been informed that there is a planned student protest (walk-out) occuring at DVSS for the 4th of April. We also hear rumours of SWO students who are considering joining this protest. As any potential walk-out is not a school sanctioned event, SWO students who plan to leave school to attend any area protests will need to comply with our regular school attendance policy. A student will require a parent/guardian to sign them out. We will require:

  • A note indicating the student will be leaving school for this event (parent signature needed)

To avoid misrepresentation (students calling in pretending to be a parent), we are requesting a note with a parent signature. Please know that students who do not have prior parent approval will not be permitted to leave school property on the 4th. We are looking to avoid a line up of students at the office, 5 minutes before the walkout, asking to call home to have their parent sanction an absence.

Thank you,

G. Smith

Principal
