First Week Review for Parents
Hello Rockton Families,
What a fantastic first week at Rockton!
The staff and I wanted to send along a message prior to the weekend to share with our Rockton families, that we have had a great start to the new school year. Our students’ have made a smooth transition from summer time fun to engaging in school routines with ease. We look forward to building on this positive start over the coming weeks. Thank you to all parents and care givers for your efforts at home in preparing for this coming school year. Your kids are awesome!!
I would like to share some information items that are outlined below to help us keep things efficient for our school operations. There is a lot here please read carefully. Thank you, John Manzin, Principal
Website and School Messenger – We will be using the Rockton School Website and School Messenger as one of the primary ways to communicate to our Rockton families. Please refer to and subscribe to the Rockton Website as we will post important news and events there. We will also share the same information through School Messenger Bulletins so that your preferred information delivery method is captured.
School Council – Our Parent Council is getting ready to gear up for another school year. Keep an eye out for a message coming next week regarding School Council for 2023-24. We’ll be scheduling a meeting in the coming weeks. Parent Council is a great way to be involved in our school community.
Early Pick-up at end of day-New Cut off Time 3:00 pm– We recognize that on the very rare occasion plans change and there may be a need to pick your child up early from school. Spontaneous request for an early pick in the last 1/2 hour of the day are hugely disruptive to an important time in the classroom schedule and can often lead to students missing important instructions/ information at the days end. In addition, our concern for a safe exiting of school as we load our students on the buses for home. We would like to cut off afternoon pick ups for no later than 3:00 pm.
If for some reason you require a time after this, could you please reach out to the office as early as possible (phone or note) so that we can plan accordingly. We will do our best to accommodate all requests.
School Parking lot Traffic – As you can imagine receiving and sending home 500+ students mostly on buses is no easy task. We ask for your continued cooperation around safety when driving on campus. Should you have to bring your child to school or pick them up please exercise extreme caution through our parking and drop/ pick-up zones. Your children’s safety is our number one priority.
Needing to contact your child during the day– We know that things come up from time to time where families need to communicate important information. We ask that you message through the office if you have an urgent communication that needs to get to your child. Please do not text or call them directly as we try to honour their learning time and the learning time of their classmates, these types of interruptions are a significant distraction to learning.
Cell Phone use at School – School Administration and classroom teachers are working through a procedure for cell phones at school. Please stay tuned for more information.
Pizza Day & Subway Day – Both programs will be offered again this year. Stay tuned info coming soon.
