Dear Richard Beasley Families,
We are writing to inform you that tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 1st, 2023, our school will be practicing our first Lockdown drill of the year during period 5. This is one of the secure schools protocol drills that we are required to practice so that staff and students are prepared in case of an emergency. It is also important that we all remain aware of secure school’s terminology used in all of Ontario’s publicly funded schools.

The term “Lockdown” is used when there is an incident or threat of serious violence or injury within the school. During a Lockdown, students will hear an announcement as follows: “This is a Lockdown”. During this time, they are expected to remain in class and away from the door until further notice. If a student should find themselves outside of a classroom, the expectation is that they will go to the nearest accessible room, including a washroom, and close the door. While in lockdown they are expected to remain quiet and turn off cell phones and/or devices (as they may alert the intruder to your presence). As always, students are also expected to follow the directions of their teacher.
