Hold & Secure Drill

Dear Families,
This message is being posted to update you on the approach to the Hold and Secure Drills that are part of the Secure Schools Protocol this year. We do these drills to ensure we are all prepared and ready for an emergency situation, should one arise.
The upcoming Hold and Secure drill that will be held Thursday February 2nd at 2:00 PM.

When a Hold and Secure Response happens, the school is most likely to be notified by Hamilton Police Services, rarely will the school make this determination themselves.
A Hold and Secure may be called when the school is to be secured due to an ongoing situation, outside and not related to the school, that requires all staff and students to remain in the building (e.g., bank robbery near a school or serious situation close by)
When a “Hold and Secure” happens, the school continues to function normally with the exterior doors locked, and staff members do not allow entry to or exit from the school until the situation is resolved.
Staff have prepared students for this drill so that they will be prepared should a situation requiring this response occur.  As a reminder, during any secure school procedure, there is the potential that uniformed officers will be in the building to inform and support best practices as they relate to the safety of the school community.  For the drill, the school will practice on their own without any police presence.
Thank you
