Fall Updates

Welcome to the 2019/2020 school year!  Can you believe the first month of school is over already!  Here are some important reminders and updates for families.

Food Days:  Milk, Pizza and Sub Day sales will continue once again this year.  We have a small but dedicated group of parents who run these days.  There is a combination of online ordering and paper order forms.  We do encourage families to use the online process as it is convenient and reduces the amount of money being brought into the school.  If you have not already done so, please register with SchoolCash Online.  Call the school if you need any more information on that!  **REMINDER that deadlines must be strictly adhered to or we will not be able to process your order.

School Council:  School Council has already met and elected the executive for the year.  As always, you are welcome to attend, even if you are not interested in formally serving on Council.  We meet on the third Tuesday of most months.  Check the School Council section of the website for more information.

Staffing Updates:  We have had quite a few changes to staff recently with our school going under Re-organization.  Welcome to all our new staff members!

Meet the Teacher:  Our Meet the Teacher event is set for Thursday, October 3rd from 5:00 to 6:30 pm.  We will have Crazy Cravings, a build-your-own ice cream truck, serving up treats for purchase.  Classrooms will be open and you will be able to meet your child’s educator.

Picture Day:  A reminder that Picture Day is taking place on Friday, October 4th.  Be sure to wear your smiles!

Spirit Wear:  We have not sold spirit wear in a few years (Ray Lewis themed apparel).  Order forms should be coming home shortly.  Our provider also hosts an online shop that makes it easy for you to order.  We will have samples available at the school for sizing.  Watch the back packs and social media for more information.

Progress Reports:  A reminder that Progress Reports will be coming home October 29th.

School Communication:  We are working hard to keep families up-to-date about happenings at Ray Lewis School.  Our main avenues for communication are our school website, the school sign and classroom/teacher communication tools (Remind, SeeSaw, etc).  Our Morning Announcements are now posted directly to our school website so you can see what your child hears each morning!  This will give you something to talk about at night!  As well, we keep our school calendar up to date with whole school events.  Please be sure to subscribe to our website and keep up-to-date.

Fundraising:  We do try to limit the amount of times we go to the community for funds, but this is a busy time of year.  This year we raised funds for Terry Fox once again, collecting over $2000.  As well, we are doing Pancakes and Pajamas again, a fundraiser that supports Pediatric Oncology.   There will likely be a couple of more events coming your way, either for the school or for charity.  Thank you for your on-going generosity and helping those in need in our communitiy!

Transportation:  This year, we have been fortunate where bus delays have been minimal.  But it is a good idea to register with HWSTS and sign up for alerts for bus delays.

Labour Updates:  As you are likely aware, education workers contracts have expired and negotiations both locally and provincially are on-going.  You can keep up-to-date with job action and potential job action on the public HWDSB site.
