Lockdown Drill Notification – Thursday, March 25th, 2021

Helen Detwiler Community,

This is to inform you that on Thursday, March 25th, our staff and students will be participating in 1 of 2 required lockdown drills for the school year.

As a reminder, a Lockdown event:
  • used only when there is a major incident or threat of serious violence within the school, or in relation to the school
  • the threat is inside the school, or is on school property, and poses an immediate threat to the students and staff
  • all movement within the school and into and out of the school is restricted
  • doors remain open to permit police immediate entry
  • Police will notify the school when lockdown is ended

Our drill will be taking place at approximately 10:05am on Thursday morning.  During this time, no person will be allowed to leave or re-enter the building until our drill is over.  The drill is expected to last approximately 10 minutes.  Please note that students will not be physically practicing the lockdown (e.g., gathering as a small group in a corner); rather, staff will be talking to the students about what is expected of them during a lockdown).

In the event of a real lockdown, parent(s)/guardian(s) are asked not to use their cell phones to communicate with their children involved in the lockdown.  Families are responsible for keeping their child’s contact information up to date so they can easily by reached by staff in the event of an emergency.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the main office.
