At the January 29, 2024 Board Meeting, HWDSB Trustees approved a change to the 2023-24 School Year Calendar. The Professional Activity (P.A.) Day previously scheduled for all elementary and secondary schools on Friday, March 1 has been moved to Monday, April 8.

This change means that HWDSB students and staff will attend school as a regular day on Friday, March 1, 2024. There will be no school for elementary and secondary students on Monday, April 8, 2024 while staff engage in professional learning.

Student Council

Popcorn and Water bottles

The Helen Detwiler Student Council continues selling ‘vintage’ HD stainless steel water bottles and/or a heaping scoop of Kernels popcorn at a cost of 2 dollars every Friday at first Nutrition Break. Students are encouraged to bring in their own reusable containers every Friday for this purpose, but some reusable containers remain for sale while supplies last for 2 dollars each as well. All proceeds of water bottle and popcorn sales will be donated to environmental charities at the end of this school year. Student Council continues to encourage all students to further help reduce our school environmental footprint by bringing in litter less lunches. Let’s all do what we can to help save our planet.

Candygrams for Valentine’s Day

Beginning on Monday, Feb. 5th, all HD students will have the opportunity buy Candygrams for a $1 each and send them to their friends. Student Council members will be available to help our younger students fill their friend’s name and correct class to ensure the Candy grams get to the correct students. Candy grams will be delivered on Valentine’s Day and will be sold for $1 each in the library during nutrition breaks from Monday Feb 5th – Wednesday Feb 7th.
