Student Council Update
Hello Parents/Guardians/Caregivers,
Our leaders of tomorrow are extremely excited about our new plan to help take better care of our planet Earth. We are encouraging all students to bring reusable water bottles, pack litter–less lunches, recycle properly at school and to encourage our families to use laundry strips to do their laundry. A package of 32 ‘Nature Clean’ laundry strips typically sell for $9.99 at your local grocery store. Using such laundry detergent is a certain way to reduce the amount of plastic going into our landfills as there are no needless laundry jugs using this paper substitute. The Student Council will also be selling popcorn to help raise money for charities locally, nationally, and globally that help our planet and its citizens. Due to our environmental focus, we will be selling Kernels popcorn to those who bring in a reusable container with a lid that holds at least 2 cups of popcorn. A 2-cup scoop of popcorn will be selling for 1 dollar, but students may also wish to buy a reusable container to use week to week for a one time, $2fee. Students may then leave this container at school to use for popcorn days. Kernels popcorn will be sold during the first Nutrition Breaks every Wednesday and Friday beginning Wednesday, March 1st.
Hold and Secure/ Shelter in Place Drills
Our school will be holding a Hold & Secure and a Shelter in Place protocol drill, so that staff and students are prepared in case of an emergency. We are planning to have the Hold and Secure drill on March 1st and the Shelter in Place drill on March 22nd.
We appreciate the co-operation of our students and staff during the drill. It is also important that we all remain aware of secure schools terminology used in all of Ontario’s publicly funded schools. You can learn more about HWDSB’s approach to secure schools at https://hwdsb.info/secureschools
