January Updates

We hope our Helen Detwiler families had a wonderful winter break and want to welcome everyone back to school to start 2023.  As we welcome the new year, we recognize the importance of student safety with potential winter conditions of snow and ice. We strongly encourage that families listen to the weather forecast to ensure students are dressed appropriately for the cold winter weather. The Helen Detwiler staff wishes you & your families all the best in 2023! As a team we look forward to a great start to the new year to support our students’ well-being &
achievement. Please see some January updates below.

Message From Student Council

A big thank you goes out to the entire Detwiler Community for your great support toward our Student Council drive ‘Just Give It’ Food Drive for the Neighbour-to-Neighbour Food Bank.  We raised $401.16 and collected over 1600 non-perishable items which translated to 1402 lbs of food.  Way to go HD!  We have made a difference for many families who are experiencing food scarcity this winter.

Our Student Council will now be turning their attention in this new calendar year to see how they can make a difference toward helping the environment.  More news on that upcoming initiative will be soon to follow.  Please stay tuned.

Moving EDGEucation Student Workshops

Moving EDGEucation is returning to Helen Detwiler on Tuesday January 17th to run movement workshops with all of our classes. The gym will be buzzing with positivity and activity as 3-4 classes get together to move their bodies in a highly engaging and inclusive environment! Students will not only be physically active moving their bodies to various music styles but will also be nurturing positive character traits like: creative expression, problem solving, self-regulation, confidence healthy peer interaction and other social/emotional skills! Forest of Reading Program

We are excited to announce that our school will be participating in the Forest of Reading Program again this year. The Forest of Reading is Canada’s largest annual recreational reading program. Children and young adults, read the selected stories and then pick the winner. This program aims to encourage a genuine and life-long love of reading among readers of all ages.

Our books have arrived, and we will begin next week. Stay tuned in the Spring to hear what stories Helen Detwiler has chosen as their favourite books of the year!
