Helen Detwiler October Updates!

Hello Helen Detwiler Families!

It’s hard to believe that we are already into the month of October. September was a busy month but we are so happy to have our students back at school learning in person. We have many events happening during the month of October. Please click here to access our school events calendar.

Additionally, below are some updates and reminders that we would like to share with our community.

School Council

On Wednesday, September 29th 2022, we held our school council elections. We look forward to working with this year’s school council executive to improve student achievement, well-being, and equity at Helen Detwiler, for more information, please click on the link below.

Meet The Educator Night

On Wednesday October 12th, we will be hosting our Meet The Educator event at Helen Detwiler. This will be an outdoor event and will take place on our paved blacktop area from 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm. More details will be shared closer to the event.

Pizza Days

Pizza Days are back at Helen Detwiler every Wednesday! Our first pizza day will be on Wednesday, October 12th. We encourage our families to pre-order pizza using School Cash Online but we will also accept cash. Pizza slices will be sold for $2 per slice.

Terry Fox Day

Our Terry Fox Event will take place on Friday, October 14th and our fundraising begins on Thursday, October 6th. More information will be sent home in a letter over the next few days.

There are 3 ways to donate this year:

  • Purchase a t-shirt.  All proceeds from t-shirt sales go to our school’s fundraising goal.
  • Bring in your “Toonies for Terry” (or any spare change).  There will also be a donation table at Meet the Educator Night.
  • Go online and donate to our Helen Detwiler School Fundraising Page at https://schools.terryfox.ca/HelenDetwilerESHamilton

Faith Community Advisory Committee Recruitment

Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) is committed to the principles of equity through
inclusive programs, curriculum, services, and operations. In addition, HWDSB believes in ensuring high
levels of student, parent, community and staff participation, involvement and engagement contributing
to student achievement and well-being. In support of our commitments, the Board of Trustees have
established the Faith Community Advisory Committee.

HWDSB is currently seeking a volunteer member for the Faith Community Advisory Committee (FCAC).
The Committee will meet at least once a year with a schedule determined by the Committee. The
Committee will be responsible for providing the Board of Trustees with advice on specific areas of Board
policy or program consistent with the Education Act and the policies of the Board, and on services that
affect the educational success and well-being of HWDSB students. For more information, click here.
