Helen Detwiler October Updates

Hello Helen Detwiler Community!

At this time, we wanted to provide you with a few updates from the school!

Morning Line Up

Due to the increasingly wet weather, students will be lining up outside on our blacktop before morning entry.  We want students to have as much fresh air as possible before the start of the day.  Students will no longer be lining up on the field in the morning.  There is a message going out this afternoon to your email with the new map of our line up locations.  The new line up routine was reviewed with your child(ren) on Friday afternoon.  We kindly ask that adults leave the blacktop area once their child is in line.  This will help us ensure physical distancing as much as possible.  Also, please remember that all adults on school property should be wearing a face covering.  Thank you for helping keep our community healthy and safe.

Cross Country

Congratulations to our Cross Country team who ran on Thursday, October 14th, 2021.  Our Grade 6-8 students made Helen Detwiler proud.  Keep up the excellent work.  The Grade 3, 4 and 5 cross country team who will be running at Helen Detwiler will be rescheduled for the week of October 18th.

Hallowee’en

As in the past, if students wish to wear a costume on Friday, October 29th to acknowledge Hallowee’en, they are permitted.  For student and staff safety, we will continue the rule of no masks that cover the entire face as well as items that resemble weapons.  These items must stay at home.  Partial face paint and/or partial face masks are permitted.  We should still be able to identify your child in an emergency situation.  Our staff is working on organizing a 20 minute dance period, which will take place in the gym throughout the day, which all classes will be a part of.  Students will only be dancing with their own class (cohort).  Since we are still under public health restrictions, there will be no sharing of food within classrooms.  Please do not bring candy and/or other food items into the school to hand out to other students.  Thank you.

Thank you for your ongoing support!

-Mr. Azzopardi and Mrs. Harvey
