End of Year Update – Device Drop Off, Item Pickup and Other Helpful Information
Dear Helen Detwiler Community,
At this point in time, we would like to inform you of our end of the year procedures, for both our families that attended in-person and those that attended a full year of Remote Learning.
On Monday, June 28th and Tuesday, June 29th, the school will be open (see below for your family appointment time) for you to return your school device (iPad, cube and cable), return any school resources (library books, textbooks, or other items) as well as pick up any personal belongings that may have been left at the school prior to our April Break. Please send a message to your classroom teacher if there is a particular item that you are hoping to have picked up. All personal items left in the classroom will be bagged by the classroom teacher and will be available for pickup at the front of the school. The scheduled appointment times are outlined below.
Monday, June 28th
1pm – 2pm – Family Surname from A-D
Tuesday, June 29th
9am – 10am – Family Surname from E-H
10am – 11am – Family Surname I – L
12pm – 1pm – Family Surname M – P
1pm – 2pm – Family Surname Q – Z
When coming to the school, please ensure:
1) A mask is worn at all times while on school property
2) Completion of the daily COVID-19 Screener. If you are experiencing any symptoms, please do not come to the school. Please call the school and alternative arrangements for pickup can be made. The daily COVID-19 screener can be found at https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/

You must screen for COVID-19 every day before going to school. Answer the following questions to help you decide if you should or should not go to school today.

3) You are not waiting for other families/friends to be at the school. Once you have dropped off and picked up your items, please leave school property as soon as possible.
4) You adhere to your appointment time as noted above.
Other Information
iPad Drop Off – If you have a school iPad, or an iPad that was borrowed from the Board office, these must be returned during one of the times above. We kindly ask that you return the charger, cable and iPad at the same time. Please place the iPads in a bag and label your children’s name on the bag. If you do not have a bag at home, we will provide one for you at the school.
Locker Access – In some circumstances, a student may need to access the school to remove their lock from their locker. The student will need to complete the COVID-19 screener and sign in and sign out once done. Only students will be allowed inside the building at this time, in limited capacity.
Report Cards: Report Cards will be sent out throughout the day on Monday, June 28th. You need your child’s Date of Birth to access the file that is sent to your email address. Enter 0 before the single digit. For example, the password for a child born on September 23, 2012 is 09/23/2012. For a child born on November 5, 2009, the password is 11/05/2009 including the slash between the month and day and year.
Classroom Teacher for Next Year: Please note, for this year only, students will not know who their classroom teacher is until the end of August. Due to the uncertainty of what school start up will look like in September, and delayed timelines in our class building process here at Helen Detwiler, we unfortunately cannot share who your child’s teacher will be next year. This information will be made available, through the Parent Portal, at the end of August. When the school reopens in the fall, the week of August 30th, you can also call the school at that time and the information can be shared with you. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
