Pink Day – Wednesday April 10

On April 10 HWDSB staff and students will join millions of people worldwide by wearing pink to recognize the International Day of Pink. The International Day of Pink began in Nova Scotia when two high school students saw a classmate being harassed for wearing a pink shirt. The two students intervened, but wanted to do more. A few days later they were able to get their entire school to wear pink. That school sent a message that together we can make everyone feel accepted.

We recognize this day at Helen Detwiler because we want to make a statement that our students will stand against all forms of bullying.  It also reminds us that when we stand up and speak out, we can make a difference. On April 10th,  many classes will take the time to discuss what we can do collectively to assure that everyone feels included, safe and welcome. We will also be holding a Pink Day event for students in our gym with a focus on anti-bullying activities.
