Principal’s Update June 12

Happy Friday FP Community,

We are in the final couple of weeks of the school year. None of us would have ever predicted that this is how we would end our year.  It feels like just yesterday, we were headed off on March break and here we are still distance learning. Albeit, we are all so much better at programming, learning, and communicating via the internet.

It was bittersweet seeing students and families as they came to pick up belongings last week. We had a number of families who could not make it in to pick up/drop off and clean out lockers. Good news, families will have one final chance to come into the school to pick up belongings on Thursday, June 18, from 9am-3pm. There will be no other access for students or families this school year. Any items that are not picked up will be donated or discarded.  Bookings can be made on our website at https://www.hwdsb.on.ca/frankpanabaker/  today through to noon on Wednesday, June 17. Please follow public health guidelines, if you are exhibiting any Covid19 symptoms, we ask you do not come into the school. You may ask a friend/family member to come on your behalf, if this is the case, you must let your homeroom teacher know.

Parents/guardians and students will receive their report cards at the end of June. We will send report cards, as a secure document, using SchoolMessenger’s email feature. When you receive the email, you will need your child’s Ontario Education Number (OEN) to verify access to the report card. You can find your child’s OEN on a previous progress report or report cards. Please contact your child’s homeroom teacher or click on this link and complete the details to ensure we have you most recent email address.

The most recent formal update from the HWDSB is found at https://www.hwdsb.on.ca/covid-19-update-to-families-14-june-8-2020/ The HWDSB is awaiting the government announcement regarding schooling in September and will provide communication to families. Some of our normal end of school information will change due to the current situation. For example, we will not be sharing on report cards who your child’s teacher will be until the first day back to school.  With the uncertainty of when and what school will be like in the fall, teacher changes may have to be made.

As always, thank you for your understanding and patience during this time of uncertainty. The staff has been working tirelessly to provide student programming and engagement right up to the last day of school. We know everyone is doing their best both at home and at school.

Please continue to stay well and follow public health guidelines.
