100th Anniversary Edition of “The Wishima Tree”, by EK Alumnus, Michael Chudnovsky

The books have arrived! Each child will receive a copy of the book to keep as a reminder of their part in the EK 100th Anniversary. We had hoped to make enough money at the anniversary to cover the cost of the gift books but, unfortunately, we fell short of our goal! The books had to be ordered before the event and we took the chance that we would raise funds at the event. If you would like to make a financial donation between $5 and $10 to cover the cost of the book, it would be greatly appreciated. Of course, you are not obligated to donate. If you wish to donate a larger amount to help us cover the cost it, would be received with our thanks! Donations can be made in the following ways:

  1. Send cash or cheques (made payable to EK Home and School) with your child on Thursday, June 25th 2. Drop off cash or cheque (made payable to EK Home and School) at the school office during school hours on Friday, June 26th
  2. Make your donation by PayPal to [email protected]

If we do exceed our goal of covering the books we are sending home today, the extra copies we ordered will be donated to local libraries, school libraries, and local children’s programs. Questions? Contact Cathy at [email protected]

Earl Kitchener School Council

The first School Council meeting of 2015 – 2016 will be held on Tuesday, September 22 at 7:00 p.m.  We welcome any and all parents to attend.  It is your chance to hear a recap of what we accomplished this year and initial plans for the upcoming year.  If you are wondering what School Councils do, here is a short introduction. School Councils are mandated by the Ministry of Education, and work to improve achievement by all students in the school and to enhance the accountability of the education system to parents.  School Councils can advise the principal and the School Board by making recommendations on issues such as curriculum, school environment, and school and school board policies.  The principal and School Board must consider each recommendation and advise Council on the action taken in response. The School Council may have up to twenty (20) Parent Representatives who must commit to attending meetings.  There are up to ten (10) meetings per year, usually held on the second Tuesday of the month.  Anyone wishing to be a Parent Representative must attend the meeting on September 22nd and put their name forward.  Parents who are not representatives on Council are always welcome to attend meetings and submit items for discussion. If you have any questions about School Council, please contact Mrs. Bratuz, or the 2014 – 2015 School Council Chair, Jenn Walsom, at [email protected].

Cash Online

Effective September 2015, there will be a new option for paying for school items and events such as agendas, school trips, spirit wear, etc. (A yellow form was sent home last week to sign up.)
