Emergency Evacuation Drill – Tuesday May 3

Every year, school communities are required to engage in a number of Secure Schools drills to ensure all students and staff understand how to participate in the case of an emergency situation.  These drills include:  6 fire drills (3 in the fall, 3 in the spring), 1 hold and secure drill, 1 shelter in place drill, 2 lockdown drills and 1 bomb threat drill.

For more information about the specific circumstances involving each of these emergency situations, please see this link on the HWDSB website:  https://www.hwdsb.on.ca/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Secure-Schools-Protocol.pdf

This week, we will engage in our bomb threat drill, which is known to students as an Emergency Evacuation Drill.  This drill is scheduled for Tuesday May 3, 2022 with a rain date of Wednesday May 4, 2022.  Whole school information will be shared with students about the drill during our morning announcements and staff will be asked to review the procedures with their class.

This drill involves notifying the occupants of the school via announcement (no alarm bell) asking everyone to vacate the building. All students, staff and visitors will evacuate the building and line up along the grass areas, as we do for fire drills. In an actual emergency evacuation, students, staff and visitors would be asked to assemble at our off-site safety location (the courtyard at Wentworth Lodge).
